Sgt. Steve Addington

note: Steve passed away in January 2004. Here is the notice that appeared in the Monterey Herald on 2/7/2004.

Steve was the Marine reporter that I spent more time with than any other reporter. I actually don't remember working with any other reporter at FLC.

His tour at FLC was his second in Vietnam. I believe he spent time with the Combat Information Bureau (CIB) in Da Nang.

He had many contacts and knew the area as well as anyone could.

I also believe he really liked the people of Vietnam. We probably spent half our time in the villages around Da Nang. There was one that he particularly liked. We went there many times including getting water to them during the drought. We first hauled several 50 gallon drums over to the village. Then we stole the water from FLC and shipped it in a small water tank (water buffalo?) behind the Jeep. I pretended to be a Lt. and Steve did all the talking to get us the water. A good time was had by all.

To get from FLC to the village we passed the giant Marine PX and entertainment center. We would stop there once every trip to the village and grab a beer. The sacrifices we made were immense.
