Marine Truck Convoy To Xa-Truong
This story is about the last supply
convoy the Marines did to the base at Xa-Truong. I should
say that the photo that was used for the Press Release (not
shown here) was a failure.
Viewing the photos for the first
time in 30 years I realized that I should have incorporated
the sign you see in the first photo on
this page. Get the trucks either going under it or by
it. Sometimes you get it, sometimes you don't.
Starting in '69 the Marines were
in pull-back mode. The U.S. Army was taking over. That's
why the 101st was at Hamburger Hill and not the Marines.
This last convoy was just part of a bigger plan.
This trip was also another example
of my inabilty to see real action. When we arrived at the
base we were told that the North Vietnamese had tried to
break though the outer perimeter the night before and they
were expecting another attack that night.
It never happened.
A couple of days after we got back
to FLC I found out that the North Vietnamese did make another
attack the night after we were there.
