The Man From The Smithsonian

This was the most unusual assignment I went on. Even Sgt. Addington, who was on his second tour, thought it was a little off the beaten path.

The job was to get a story about a two-man research team from the Smithsonian Institute. One was a biologist from the Smithsonian and his assistant was a Navy chief.

We also had a squad of Marines for security.

The fun part was our destination, Monkey Mountain. This mountain was located on the penesula that juted north from Da Nang. Because of its location it was one of the safest places in Vietnam.

We spent 4 days searching for plants, insects, small aminals, and drinking several cases of beer. Oh, and blowing one big hole in a creek.
