Ouch!

This was the picture we used. It got wide publication and everyone seemed to like it. At the time I was a little disappointed becuse of the fuzzy nose but not now.

This dog was so close to the camera that he could have bitten it.

I was using a 28mm wide-angle lens on a Nikon F and the nose of the dog is fuzzy. Not because of motion blur but because it was out-of-focus!

A couple of weeks after taking this picture the dog was killed by a land mine. The Marine handler was evacuated to the States. I hope he made it.

Update: April 24, 2007: Fred Dorr, President Vietnam Dog Handler Assocation, has sent information about the marine, Ron Roane, in this photo. He states that Ron is alive and well having survived his wounds. Fred also included the press release attached to the photo.
