| Why
start with this photo. Because the village, Ap Xuan Duong, was off
limits to us. It was the upscale weekend retreat for Vietnamese.
On weekends this place was packed with locals. So the only way to
see it was from the air. Except one time. One of my first assignments
was photographing the delivery of school books to this village.
Walking through the village with loads of books we saw no one. Not
a soul was in sight. Zip. Nada. Only person we saw was the school
teacher. We just dropped off the books and said our good-byes and
marched straight out of there. Even the truck driver felt something
was wrong because he had backed up the truck right to the entrance
of the village. We all jumped on the truck even as the driver was
pulling out. Next |
