U.S. Marine Corps Photographers Who Served In
The Vietnam War (the list)
June 23, 2005: How many Marine Corps photographers served
in Vietnam? Who were they? Can we see some of their work? Those
are some of the questions we are going to try to answer. It's
a big project and might never be completed but we are determined
to do it.
The big goal of this project is to set-up a seperate web site
with the following information.
- A complete list of all Marine photographers that served in
Vietnam.
- We would like to have the following information for each photographer:
- Name.
- Rank.
- The start and finish dates of their tours.
- The units they served with.
- Lastly examples of their work official and unofficial.
The list of Marine photographers who served in Vietnam could
be in the thousands. We just don't know. Our first project is
contacting Marine Corps headquarters and finding out the procedures
for getting any of this information. We sure hope we can get it.
At this time even that's a big if. So it begins.

If you are interested in helping in any way or just want to be
kept up to date on the project then send us an e-mail at editor@photoessayist.com.
An example of what we are trying to do is our first photographer,
Sgt Dave Deyerle. It's almost fitting that he be the first since
he was one of the first Marine photographers to work in Vietnam.
He was also this photographer's boss from 1965 to 1967.
Take a look and then tell us what you think.
Thanks John
