| Parachute Drop. Eleven gaily colored
captive parachutes, each seating two passengers are hoisted by steel
cables to the top of the 250 foot tower, where an automatic release
drops parachute and passengers into the thin air, giving the sensation
of "bailing" out from a winging plane. The jump has been
safeguarded against the slightest hazard. A metal ring keeps the
parachute open at all times umbrella-like, while vertical guide
wires prevent it from swinging or drifting in the wind, and shock
absorbers at the bottom all but eliminate the jolt of landing. |
Sculptured sundial "Time and
the Fates of Man" by Paul Manship was at the beginning of Constitutional
Mall, prior to Washington Square, at the opposite end of The Court
of Peace. It was the largest sundial of it's time.
