Lately I’ve been concentrating on shadows and their relationship to the buildings they land on. So when I visited the alley this morning I was looking for shadows. The photo above is one of my attempts. It may or may not be any good, that’s not the point. The point is taking the photo and later see what you have. It may up being used or it could be a reference photo for a later day when the shadows on this wall change or just maybe it will end up in the trash bin.
This is exactly what happened on a previous shot where I had to go back several times before I was able to get the shot I wanted. See photo below.
You probably go through a similar process so why am I telling you this?
Here’s why. As I was taking photos of the wall a group of women in a minivan pulled into the parking lot. I moved out of the way but the driver lowered her window and asked me what I was taking a photo of? I told her, the wall.
She just tsked, tsked the idea all together.
I offered to take her photo but she drove away.
I live in Laguna Beach, the art capital of Southern California. For someone to come into my town and criticize anyone trying to be creative, whether they are successful or not, is just plain rude.
To create is to fail many more times then you succeed. Failure is part of the process.
I wonder what the critic in the Minivan would think of the photo shown below?
