Groupies Come In All Flavors
I’m at the Getty, here in LA, and I take one of the docent tours. This one talks about the architecture of the site. What this fellow is doing is checking out the mortar-less stones that face several of the buildings. There’s no mortar because if an earthquake happens you don’t have the problem of loose mortar to replace. That can be a real pain.
So our groupie decides to check out the stone to verify that there is no mortar.
The architect for the Getty, Richard Meier, would be proud. Here is Meier’s web site info on the Getty.
NY Times ‘Moment In Time’ Now Showing
The NY Times massive project, Moment In Time, is now up and running. I’m sure I will be spending hours viewing all the work that is up here.
Here is the link to the Globe from where you can view any photo from around the world: http://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2010/05/03/blogs/a-moment-in-time.html?th&emc=th
And if you’re interested here is the link to the photo we posted: http://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2010/05/03/blogs/a-moment-in-time.html?th&emc=th#/4bde1ad9db799a1bbd0002bd
About the above photo. I took this photo about 15 minutes early and would have taken one of the smiling face at the appointed hour if only his older siblings hadn’t taken him on a tour of the grounds and I lost sight of him.
Will You . . .?
Saturday when I was searching for a photo for the the NY Times A Moment In Time project I came upon this scene. Only problem was that the next morning it was missing. The photo had to be taken at 8 AM Sunday morning. I guess they were on their honeymoon.
There Goes That Big Steam Locomotive Again! [Update]
As reported yesterday the steam locomotive and it’s passengers traveled from LA to San Diego and they’re returned today (Sunday.)
This time we waited at a crossing in Orange, CA and were very happy with the results. I will be creating a Flash show, like the one I posted yesterday but longer, and putting it up sometime this week. This time I have not 12 but 27 photos to include in the slide show. Be patient. I have some adjusting to do. I didn’t get the photos level so I need to level all the photos before I can save them as JPGs and then make the Flash show.
[Update] Here is the Flash slide show from Sunday’s Santa Fe 3751 as it traveled through Orange, CA: www.photoessayist.com/pb/flash/santafe3751sunday/index.html
The May 2, 2010 8 AM Moment In Time Photo
You remembered the NY Times Moment In Time project didn’t you? So have you uploaded your photo already?
This was my contribution. It was taken in Santa Ana, CA on 4th St. They were having a two day celebration of Cinco de Mayo. At 8 AM the workers were just showing up to get their booths ready for a long day and evening.
